A separate feature with no parallel elsewhere in the region is Karakalpakstan, a sovereign autonomous republic with its own constitution and its own supreme court; the 2023 draft initially removed its constitutional right to secede by referendum, and that provision was withdrawn after the Nukus protests of July 2022.
