Legal information, not legal advice. Every jurisdiction page carries its verification status and sources.

Comparison

Read two legal systems against each other

Because every portal follows the same fifteen-section outline, the comparison is genuinely like-for-like rather than a collage of whatever each government happens to publish.

Division of powersUnitary, with 18 departments and 298 municipalities. Municipal autonomy is constitutionally protected, and the Garifuna and Miskito communities hold collectively titled coastal land recognised in Inter-American Court judgments.Unitary. Districts and sub-districts administer central policy, and the House of Chiefs (Ntlo ya Dikgosi) is an advisory chamber that must be consulted on bills affecting customary law, tribal organisation and tribal property.Sections 91 and 92 divide federal and provincial competence. Section 33 allows a legislature to override certain Charter rights for renewable five-year periods.
How law is madeBills are debated and approved article by article in Congress. The President may veto within ten days; Congress overrides with two-thirds. Constitutional amendments require two-thirds in two consecutive ordinary sessions, and cannot touch the entrenched articles.Bills are introduced in the National Assembly, take three readings with committee scrutiny between the second and third, and go to the President for assent. Bills affecting customary law, tribal property or the organisation of the tribes must first be referred to the Ntlo ya Dikgosi for its opinion, though that opinion does not bind the Assembly.Three readings plus committee study in each chamber, then Royal Assent. Money bills must originate in the Commons.
Legal professionPractice requires membership of the Colegio de Abogados de Honduras. Lawyers are admitted as abogado and may obtain a separate notarial commission from the Supreme Court after five years of practice.A fused profession of attorneys admitted by the High Court after a recognised law degree and articles of pupillage; there is no split between advocates and attorneys, and the Law Society of Botswana regulates practice.Provincial law societies regulate admission: an accredited degree, articles, and bar admission courses. Québec has separate avocat and notaire professions.

A comparison table flattens nuance by design. Where a difference matters to a decision you are making, open both portals and read the section in full — the constitutional detail behind a one-line summary is often the part that governs the outcome.
