Legal information, not legal advice. Every jurisdiction page carries its verification status and sources.

Comparison

Read two legal systems against each other

Because every portal follows the same fifteen-section outline, the comparison is genuinely like-for-like rather than a collage of whatever each government happens to publish.

Division of powersA unicameral parliament dominates: it elects the President, the Curiaโ€™s President, the Prosecutor General and the constitutional judges. Judicial administration is split between the National Office for the Judiciary and the elected National Judicial Council.Unitary. Sixteen regions administer but do not legislate. Regional governors have been directly elected since 2021, which shifted real power away from the centrally appointed delegates, but legislative competence remains exclusively national.Sections 91 and 92 divide federal and provincial competence. Section 33 allows a legislature to override certain Charter rights for renewable five-year periods.
How law is madeBills are debated in the National Assembly and adopted by simple majority, or two-thirds for cardinal statutes. The President signs within five days, or may return the bill once or refer it for constitutional review before promulgation in Magyar Kรถzlรถny.Bills originate with the President or in either chamber, though tax, budget and social-security bills are the President's exclusive initiative โ€” an unusually strong executive agenda power. Both chambers must approve; a mixed committee resolves conflict. The President may veto, overridden by two-thirds. Constitutional amendment needs four-sevenths of sitting members, with two-thirds for certain entrenched chapters.Three readings plus committee study in each chamber, then Royal Assent. Money bills must originate in the Commons.
Legal professionAttorneys (รผgyvรฉdek) belong to the Hungarian Bar Association after a traineeship and bar examination; notaries hold a public office and conduct non-contentious succession proceedings.A five-year degree, a supervised practice period, and admission by the Supreme Court itself, which is unusual โ€” the Court, not a bar, confers the title of abogado. Membership of the Colegio de Abogados has been voluntary since 1981, so the Court retains disciplinary jurisdiction over misconduct.Provincial law societies regulate admission: an accredited degree, articles, and bar admission courses. Quรฉbec has separate avocat and notaire professions.

A comparison table flattens nuance by design. Where a difference matters to a decision you are making, open both portals and read the section in full โ€” the constitutional detail behind a one-line summary is often the part that governs the outcome.
