The senior of the two permanent divisions of a single Supreme Court. It held the Fifth and Seventh Amendments unconstitutional, invalidating the legal cover for earlier military interventions, and struck down the Sixteenth Amendment in 2017 over judicial removal. Its 1989 decision in Anwar Hossain Chowdhury established a basic-structure doctrine limiting the amending power, mirroring the Indian position.
