Federal Shariat Court

وفاقی شرعی عدالت / Federal Shariat Court

Reviewed· 2026-08-03Islamabad

Frequently misunderstood: it is not a family or religious tribunal but a court that reviews legislation for conformity with Islamic injunctions and can require the federal or provincial government to amend an offending law. Its 2022 ruling declared the interest-based financial system repugnant to Islam and set a transition deadline. Appeals go to the Shariat Appellate Bench of the Supreme Court, which includes ulema judges, not to the ordinary bench.
