Palestinian Courts

المجلس الأعلى للقضاء / High Judicial Council courts

Indexed· 2026-08-03Ramallah and Gaza

Recorded as research because the applicable law and the operating judiciary are genuinely fragmented. The West Bank retains Jordanian-era legislation, Gaza retains Egyptian-era legislation, Ottoman and British Mandate provisions survive in both, and Israeli military orders apply in parts of the West Bank. The Palestinian Legislative Council has not sat since 2007, so legislation has proceeded by presidential decree, and separate judicial administrations have operated in the West Bank and Gaza. Sharia courts handle Muslim personal status and church courts handle Christian personal status.
