Court of Appeal of Singapore

Court of Appeal of the Republic of Singapore

Reviewed· 2026-08-03Singapore

Appeals to the Privy Council were restricted in 1989 and abolished entirely in 1994, since when this has been the final court. The Supreme Court was restructured in 2021 to add an Appellate Division of the High Court, so the Court of Appeal now takes the most significant appeals while routine civil appeals stop one tier lower. Singapore retains the death penalty for certain drug and homicide offences, and constitutional challenges to it have been unsuccessful.
