Cassation

Review limited to points of law, with the power to quash and remit rather than substitute a decision.
In more detail
Courts of cassation in France, Italy, Belgium and much of Latin America do not re-hear facts. If they find a legal error they annul the judgment and send the case back to a differently constituted lower court, which is why cassation proceedings can extend litigation considerably.
