Judicial review
common-lawcivil-lawconstitutional
Court scrutiny of the legality of legislation or administrative action.
In more detail
The scope varies enormously. Some systems allow courts to strike down statutes with general effect (Germany, Brazil), some allow refusal to apply them in the case at hand (United States), and some permit only a declaration of incompatibility (United Kingdom). Administrative judicial review is far more uniform.
