Natural justice

The minimum procedural fairness owed by any decision-maker: a fair hearing and an unbiased tribunal.

Expressed in the maxims audi alteram partem (hear the other side) and nemo judex in causa sua (no one a judge in their own cause). It applies to administrative decisions as well as courts, and breach is a standard ground of judicial review.
