Ministère de la Justice
Administers the courts and the prison service across both the civil-law and common-law jurisdictions.
What this authority does
Cameroon's justice ministry supervises a bijural system: eight francophone regions applying codified civil law and two anglophone regions (North-West and South-West) applying the common law inherited from the British Southern Cameroons. The 2017 creation of a Common Law Section at the Supreme Court followed lawyers' strikes over the erosion of that distinction.
