In force from independence on 10 July 1973. Chapter III guarantees fundamental rights. Referendums in 2002 and 2016 to remove remaining sex-based distinctions in the citizenship provisions were both defeated, so Articles 8 to 10 continue to treat Bahamian men and women differently in transmitting citizenship.

Separation of powers
Unitary. Parliament legislates nationally; the Family Islands are administered through local government districts created by the Local Government Act 1996, with New Providence excluded from that scheme.
