Constitución de la República de Cuba
Approved by referendum on 24 February 2019, replacing the 1976 constitution. It restored the offices of President and Prime Minister, set term and age limits for the presidency, and expanded the rights chapter to include due process, habeas corpus and the right to legal assistance from the moment of detention. Article 5 retains the Communist Party's constitutional primacy.

Separation of powers
Unitary, organised on the principle of a single system of state power. The 2019 Constitution and the 2019 territorial reform recognise 15 provinces and the special municipality of Isla de la Juventud, with provincial governors appointed on the President's nomination.
