The three branches
- Executive — President and Cabinet
- Five-year term; a two-term limit is in the draft but not the 1997 text.
- Legislative — National Assembly
- 53 elected members plus five nominated by the President.
- Judicial — Judiciary of The Gambia
- Judicial Service Commission advises on appointments.
- Oversight — National Human Rights Commission
- Established 2017; monitors rights compliance.
How legislation is made
Bills are published, read three times and considered in committee before passage. The President assents; a refusal returns the bill to the Assembly.

- Anti-Corruption Commission
- Established under the 2023 Anti-Corruption Act.
