Supreme Court of Yemen

المحكمة العليا / Supreme Court

Indexed· 2026-08-03Sana'a and Aden

Recorded as research. Since 2014 the judiciary has been divided between the internationally recognised government, which has established judicial institutions in Aden, and the Houthi authorities in Sana'a, who control the original Supreme Court building and appoint their own judges. There is no single functioning hierarchy, judgments from one authority are not reliably recognised by the other, and tribal arbitration resolves a large share of disputes. Yemeni law derives from the unification of the northern and southern codes in 1990–94, applying Sharia as the principal source.
