High Council of Justice
Vets judicial appointments and audits how the courts operate.
What this authority does
Conseil supérieur de la Justice / Hoge Raad voor de Justitie was created after the 1998 constitutional reform to depoliticise judicial appointments. It nominates candidates for judicial office, conducts audits of court functioning and handles citizens’ complaints about the administration of justice — though it cannot review the substance of a judgment.
