The hierarchy, top to bottom
- Constitutional — Constitutional Court
- Created by the 2020 revision; twelve members drawn from appointment and judicial election.
- Final appellate — Supreme Court
- In Algiers; final appeals on points of law in civil and criminal matters.
- Administrative — Council of State
- Apex of the separate administrative jurisdiction.
- Appellate — Judicial councils (cours)
- One per wilaya grouping; appeals from the tribunals.
- First instance — Tribunals
- Civil, commercial, social and criminal sections, with family benches applying the Family Code.
