- Provided by Chapter VI; not functioning as a check in practice.
- Final appellate — Supreme Court of the Union
- Sits at Naypyidaw; special appeal and revision jurisdiction.
- Appellate — High Courts of the Regions and States
- Appellate and some original jurisdiction.
- First instance — District and Township Courts
- The bulk of civil and criminal work.
- Military — Courts-martial and special courts
- Expanded jurisdiction over civilians under martial law in designated townships.
