The hierarchy, top to bottom
- Final appellate — Supreme Court
- Final court; constitutional and appellate jurisdiction.
- Superior — High Court
- Main and Northern Local Divisions; unlimited original jurisdiction.
- First instance — Magistrates' courts
- Regional and district courts for ordinary civil and criminal work.
- Customary — Community courts
- Apply customary law under the Community Courts Act; appeals to the magistracy.
- Specialised — Labour Court
- A division of the High Court dealing with employment disputes.
