The 2010 constitution established the Seventh Republic with a semi-presidential structure and was suspended after the July 2023 coup. Governance now rests on orders of the Conseil national pour la sauvegarde de la patrie pending an announced transition.

Separation of powers
Under the suspended constitution, a semi-presidential system with a President, Prime Minister and National Assembly. Currently executive and legislative authority is concentrated in the CNSP and an appointed government.
