The Constitution of Saint Lucia

Contained in the Saint Lucia Constitution Order 1978 and in force at independence on 22 February 1979. Chapter I protects fundamental rights and freedoms. A Constitutional Reform Commission reported in 2011 recommending extensive change, including a move to a republic, but its recommendations have not been enacted.

Separation of powers

Unitary. Parliament legislates for the whole state; the ten quarters are administrative, and local government operates through town and village councils with delegated powers.
