Constitution of the Slovak Republic
Adopted in September 1992, months before independence. It contains its own bill of rights rather than a separate charter, and was amended in 2001 to create the Judicial Council and enable EU accession. Amendment requires a three-fifths majority of all members of the National Council.

Separation of powers
A single-chamber parliament, a directly elected President with a weak veto, and a Constitutional Court whose thirteen judges are appointed by the President from a parliamentary list.
