Reorganised in 2023: a new Court of Appeal was created beneath it and a separate Supreme Constitutional Court now handles constitutional and administrative review, replacing the combined jurisdiction the Supreme Court previously held. The Republic's courts have no effective jurisdiction in the northern third of the island, administered since 1974 by the Turkish Cypriot administration with its own separate courts, which is recorded here as fact rather than as a position on the dispute. Cyprus is an EU member state, so EU law and the Court of Justice's rulings apply.
