Approved by referendum in May 2018, replacing the 2005 post-conflict constitution. Extended the presidential term to seven years, restored the office of Prime Minister in place of two vice-presidents, and retained the Arusha ethnic quota provisions in modified form.

Separation of powers

Presidential system with a Prime Minister, a bicameral Parliament of National Assembly and Senate with ethnic and gender quotas, and a judiciary headed by the Supreme Court with a separate Constitutional Court.
