Took effect on the dissolution of Czechoslovakia. It forms a "constitutional order" together with the separate Charter of Fundamental Rights and Freedoms, which has equal constitutional rank. Amendment requires three-fifths of all deputies and three-fifths of senators present.

Separation of powers
Parliamentary government with a directly elected President since 2013 whose powers remain mostly formal, checked by a Constitutional Court that may annul both statutes and judicial decisions.
