The three branches
- Executive β President, Vice-President and Prime Minister
- Five-year term; term and age limits removed in 2005 and 2017.
- Legislative β Parliament of Uganda
- Unicameral with constituency, district woman, and special interest group representatives.
- Judicial β Supreme Court, Court of Appeal, High Court
- Judicial Service Commission advises on appointments.
- Traditional β Cultural and traditional leaders
- Recognised under article 246 without political or legislative role.
How legislation is made
Bills receive three readings with committee scrutiny; certificates of financial implication are required for money bills. The President assents, returns the bill twice with recommendations, or it becomes law if passed a third time by two-thirds.

- Constitutionally independent prosecution service.

- Ombudsman and anti-corruption body with prosecutorial powers.
