Supervises four separate court hierarchies — general, religious, military and administrative — each with its own first-instance and appellate tiers. The religious courts (Pengadilan Agama) apply the Compilation of Islamic Law to Muslim marriage, divorce and inheritance nationwide. Aceh alone operates Mahkamah Syar'iyah with jurisdiction extended to Syariah criminal matters under its special-autonomy status.
