The hierarchy, top to bottom
- Constitutional — Constitutional Court (Mahkamah Konstitusi)
- Reviews statutes; decides election and impeachment disputes.
- Final appellate — Supreme Court (Mahkamah Agung)
- Final appeal in all four court streams; reviews subordinate regulations.
- Appellate — High Courts
- Provincial appellate courts in each of the four streams.
- First instance — District Courts, Religious Courts, Administrative Courts, Military Courts
- Four parallel first-instance streams.
- Special — Sharia courts of Aceh (Mahkamah Syar'iyah)
