The three branches
- Head of State — President of the Republic
- Elected by Parliament; guarantor of the constitution.
- Executive — President of the Council of Ministers
- Prime minister and cabinet answerable to Parliament.
- Legislative — Parliament
- Chamber of Deputies and Senate.
- Judicial — Ordinary and administrative courts plus the Constitutional Court
- Governed by the Superior Council of the Judiciary.
How legislation is made
Bills must be approved in identical text by both chambers of Parliament and are promulgated by the President, who may request a second reading.
