Sources of law, ranked
- Constitution
- Directly applicable; basis of the constitutional complaint.
- International treaties
- Ratified treaties form part of domestic law under Article 9.

- The 2014 Association Agreement drives approximation of Ukrainian law.
- Codes and laws
- Civil Code, Commercial Code, Criminal Code, Land Code.

The legislative process
Bills pass first, second and sometimes third readings in the Verkhovna Rada, are signed by the President within fifteen days, and a veto is overridden by two-thirds of deputies. Laws take effect on publication unless stated otherwise.
