The hierarchy, top to bottom
- Constitutional — Tribunal Constitucional del Perú
- Seven magistrates elected by Congress for five years.
- Supreme — Corte Suprema de Justicia
- Cassation through specialised chambers.
- Appellate — Cortes Superiores de Justicia
- One per judicial district.
- First instance — Juzgados especializados and juzgados de paz
- Justices of the peace handle minor and community matters, often in Quechua.
